A Fabulous 10th Anniversary Gala Party

The Peninsula Tokyo made a grand toast to its first decade with one of the most fabulous gala events the city of Tokyo had seen in a long time.

Having opened its doors for the first time on September 1, 2007 – and graciously welcoming guests from all over the world to experience omotenashi, the distinct Japanese spirit of hospitality since then - the hotel celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a dazzling gala party on Thursday, October 26 2017.

The event, which was attended by well over 1,000 guests, extended from The Lobby to Hei Fung Terrace, to the Grand Ballroom and Ginza Ballroom, and all the way up to the Sky Room and Peter on the 24th floor where the festivities continued until late into the night. Executive Chef Massimiliano Ziano and his team of culinary experts outdid themselves by providing a lavish gastronomic spread which included 30kgs of premium caviar, 3000 Peking duck pancakes, and over 100kgs of prime A5 Kobe beef tenderloin, considered the finest in Japanese beef. Guests also enjoyed a selection of premium cheeses and cold cuts, a ballroom filled with chocolates and pastries galore, and overflowing champagne, wine, and cocktails.

Entertainment was top-billed by international performer Lani Misalucha who was flown in from Las Vegas, in addition to Kenyan singer-songwriter Swinky, a sixteen-piece big band, and a Japanese guitarist and shamisen duo, among others.

At the Grand Ballroom, the evening’s Master of Ceremonies, the ever elegant Clara Bodin, welcomed guests and introduced The Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, The Hon. Sir Michael Kadoorie. In a heartfelt speech that traced the history and milestones of The Peninsula Tokyo, he said: “We have a deep affinity and respect for Japanese culture and traditions. Japan offers an endless source of fascination for overseas travelers, from the well-known beauty of its sakura to its high-tech innovation and world-class efficiency.”

Undoubtedly it was a gala party that will remain in the memory of all those who attended and who collectively paid homage to the enduring success and the exciting future The Peninsula Tokyo has in store.
